Chinese-Western of Luxury

Residential House Designed by Tony Cheng

Nestled behind the sleek, modern exterior of this house in Guangzhou lies a veritable palace fit for a king. Playing home to three generations of an affluent Chinese family, this five-storey villa boasts an impressive 10,000 square feet inside, as well as a further 4,500 square feet of gardens, making this an extremely luxurious holiday home for its ten occupants.

Designed by Tony Cheng of Icon Interior Design Ltd, the theme of the interiors is East meets West, however few could deny the extraordinary opulence of splendor that lives here. Featuring glamorous Fior Dipesco Carnico marble throughout – even the exterior walls are clad in marble- this property offers a spectacular feast of European-style luxury combined with Chinese tradition.

Featuring double height ceilings, an extensive custom-made plush sofa that hugs the angles of the building and a circular rug to soften the marble flooring, this room would rival the lobby of several of the world’s most sumptuous hotels. The dining room offers a modern interpretation of traditional Chinese design, showcasing mahogany walls coated with ten-seater circular dining table, all illuminated by a chic twist on the typical Chinese chandelier.

The main living area oozes opulence and luxury. Featuring double height ceilings, an extensive custom-made plush sofa that hugs the angles of the building and a circular rug to soften the marble flooring, this room would rival the lobby of several of the world’s most sumptuous hotels. Low-slung sofas match the unique angular shape of the building beautifully, and a collection of plush cushions add a touch of comfort. Next door in the hall, where an enormous chandelier graces the ceiling, there is another seating area where the family can gather to play the piano and relax in the evenings.

When you think of Guangzhou, it is easy to be distracted by images of a busy, industrial city, however, this fortunate group of ten have transformed a simple property into a hotel away from home.

The project finished in January 2015 in Guangzhou. The theme of the interiors is East meets West, however few could deny the extraordinary opulence of splendor that lives here. Featuring glamorous Fior Dipesco Carnico marble throughout – even the exterior walls are clad in marble- this property offers a spectacular feast of European-style luxury combined with Chinese tradition. Chosen for its natural grains that resemble both a Chinese ink wash painting and Western landscape, the marble feature wall beautifully offsets the working fireplace, ensuring this space is brimming with European flair.

The goal behind the design of the house was to ensure the needs of each and every family member were met, and as such, there are six public halls where they can entertain each other. The basement and ground levels tend to be bedrooms, the grandparents also have their own personal area on the ground floor so they don’t have to tackle the many stairs, while on the first and second floors, each brother occupies an entire storey with his family.
